In 2004 the idea of the National Golf Festival was born on a golf course, among friends who just took up golf. Like most of us they wanted to meet other golfers, learn more about the game, be competitive but also have lots of fun.

The event was successfully held from 2005 to 2007 with FNB being the title sponsor. In 2007 the event was held over 7 days with a 3-day and 4-day options. That year the event attracted just over 800 golfers playing almost 3,000 rounds of golf.

Unfortunately the event did not continue due to various reasons.

In 2016, Charl Marais the founder of the festival decided to revive it again with one of the original partners, Sarel Theron.

They managed to secure an anchor sponsor being The Pro Shop and in 2017 the National Golf Festival  was successfully re-launched with the help of Werner Rall from Terra Firma Marketing & Events Agency. Eighteen individual golf days were presented over 4 days attracting +-350 golfers who played 1,070 rounds of golf.

The 2018 event saw significant growth with more than 500 golfers participating through 1400 rounds of golf over 24 golf days. Charl and Werner joined forces and started a new company, Home of Golf Africa under which the event is staged and the market the Garden Route as the top golfing destination in Africa.

Golf 4 Cancer is the main social beneficiary of the National Golf Festival, raising money for kids living with cancer.

In 2019 the festival will see some exciting additions and build on its core of being a great opportunity for players to book their annual golf tour as part as NGF where they can stand a chance to win great prizes and have loads of fun with their mates.
